Free Quilled Folk Art Bird Pattern

Red Tailed Folk Art Bird

This is a free quilling pattern for a Red Tailed Folk Art Bird.  I based this pattern on a set of folk art bird stickers.  Unfortunately, I no longer have the stickers and cannot find a picture of them :-(  but this little bird is a way to remember what they looked like :-)

I hope that you enjoy this fun little pattern and know that anything you see around you can inspire your quilling - all you need is your imagination and thin strips of paper!  I have done many searches looking for pictures of things that I am interested in, all of these are potential quilling projects... follow what you are interested in and creativity will take you where you want to go!

Body and Head (Yellow and Red)
3 Yellow Teardrop (6 inch, 15.2 cm), tightly rolled
1 Yellow Teardrop (3 inch, 7.6 cm), tightly rolled
1 Yellow (3 inch, 7.6 cm) strip, wrapped around body and head
3 Red Teardrop (3 inch, 7.6 cm), cut to 1/16 inch, .15 cm wide, tightly rolled
Place 1 Red Teardrop as beak and 2 on top of head

Tail (Yellow, Red, and Blue)
5 Yellow Teardrop (3 inch, 7.6 cm), cut to 1/16 inch, .15 cm wide, tightly rolled
4 Red Teardrop (3 inch, 7.6 cm), cut to 1/16 inch, .15 cm wide, tightly rolled
4 Blue Teardrop (3 inch, 7.6 cm), cut to 1/16 inch, .15 cm wide, tightly rolled
1 Blue Tight roll (2 inch, 5.1 cm), cut to 1/16 inch, .15 cm wide
I built the tail by arranging the Yellow feathers and then the Red feathers separately.  Then I layered the Red on top of the Yellow and arranged the blue feathers in between the Yellow.  You can see from the picture that I placed a dab of glue so that when I placed the feathers on the tail it would be a strong attachment point.

Wing (Blue)
2 Blue Teardrop (6 inch, 15.2 cm), cut to 1/16 inch, .15 cm wide, tightly rolled
You will notice that I only made one wing for this bird and the blue teardrops are placed on top of each other.
